Soave is one of the most famous white wines in Italy, and is produced by this company in different variations, such as “Col Foscarin”. In addition to this white wine, an appreciated Pinot Noir red wine “Campo alle More” is produced.
Soave is one of the most famous white wines in Italy, produced in one of the few areas that took the name of a city and gave it to an entire denomination. There are few other examples, Barolo, Barbaresco and Frascati, other historical areas of wine production, immediately come to mind.
A historic area requires a number of historic families, and the Gini can certainly be ascribed to this small elite: they have operated in the Salvarenza sub-area of Monteforte d’Alpone since the seventeenth century. Monteforte d’Alpone is contiguous to Soave, but there are differences in the soil that are reflected in the wines: in Soave the land of the vineyards tends to be limestone, while in Monteforte d’Alpone tends to be of volcanic origin, something rare in the north of Italy, but not in other parts of the country. The richness of minerals created by repeated eruptions is felt a lot in these wines and gives them a distinctive character.
The family, over the centuries, has put together over 55 hectares of possessions, but no less important than the size is the area: the vineyards are located in well-known and absolutely renowned places such as Froscà and Foscarin . Soave essentially means Garganega grapes, but the family, although very attached to this important indigenous variety, is not without affection or interest in experimentation, and both well-made Sauvignon Blanc ( Maciete Fumé ) are available for the customers of the house that a Pinot Noir ( Campo alle More ) of great varietal character.
Ma il Soave è ovviamente di centrale importanza ed è offerto in una varietà di tipi e stili differenti: l’imbottigliamento regolare, assolutamente uno dei migliori della denominazione; Soave La Froscà, la selezione singola vigna, pulita, minerale, concentrata ed espressiva; e, migliore di tutti, il Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne, un vecchio vigneto che riesce nel non facile compito di riconciliare il carattere varietale di Garganega con l’invecchiamento in barili di quercia. A queste scelte va aggiunto l’eccellente vino da dessert Soave, il Recioto Col Foscarin.
